Aomori City does not have a lot apart from th Nebuta museum and the art Musuem but it's a pleasant city and the bus service is excellent.
From Aomori City there are plenty of day trips to make either by train or by car. Such as Hirosaki castle, Hirosaki Art Museum, the Gone line to Juniko & bus to Aoike, many spas like at Asamushi or around Mount Habkkoda.
The tourist office is very well organised and friendly.
You could spend a whole week to see the whole prefecture u=in detail.
Will go back to explore the Pacific Coast next time.

There wasn’t much to see and I’d skip next time and head straight to Hakodate or Sapporo. We stayed after riding the Resort Shirakami train to Hirosake to see the castle. Most of the restaurants were closed and we could not find a place for dinner. We grabbed snacks at the convenience store. We had to take a local train to the Shinkansen the next day which added to our trip.

The San'nai-Murayama Stone Age village museum site on the outskirts of Aomori was amazing, with many fully reconstructed thatched dwellings; very atmospheric!
Slightly further south west of the town is the spectacular Hirosaki Castle, with arguably the best cherry blossom display in Japan, (mid April).
Framing almost every photo there will be the astonishing Mount Iwaki, which looms sheer out of the landscape behind the castle. Easily as stunning as Fuji.
The coast road to the west of Aomori is beautiful and rugged, with a shoreline onsen pool at Fukaora.
Aomori has the best seafood anywhere south of Hokkaido. Try the uni!

I came to Aomori for the Nebuta Festival.
I came to Aomori for the Nebuta Festival.
It is a great, spectacular event. Perfect for families.
The Nebuta Museum has some great exhibits that gives a flavour of what the festival is like - but without the drums, fireworks and atmosphere.
Unfortunately I booked too late, and only could get a room for one night.
If you want to see this, make sure you book early - as the accommodation sells out quick during the festival.

If you staying in the city and planning to visit nearby...
If you staying in the city and planning to visit nearby hirosaki city
you probably need no more than four days to do everything
first few important things to say
public transportation it's very different from Tokyo trains are not rapidly moving from one city to another
in transport in the city it's not very common it's bases but walking will be the better choice anyway because it's a small city
I will highly recommend the number one restaurant in aomori that have the nebuta show name : Takakyu Nebutanokuni - literally people coming from all over Japan
the staff will try their best to communicate with foreigners but remember at least the minimum required Japanese will help you there
(in general outside Tokyo and Kyoto English is not common at all)
important to say that aomori like sappro have the freshest seafood in all around JAPAN
and few of the main attractions in the city Aomori
( the famous build your own bowl market - A factory - nebuta museum and the Main St ) - two days
hirasaki main attractions - two days
( just google tripvisor hirosako XD)
visiting around winter ? I highly recommend renting a car and driving to the nearby ski resorts not only you'll be welcome bye unforgettable views of snow in the horizon but an amazing ski resorts that I will highly recommend
BTW I visited around mid Mars and skiing is still available around those times of year !
I took effort in writing this down and I wish I could get I review like that when i was planning to visit hope it will help you !
(I couldn't provide photos but I wish I could do beautiful city with beautiful scenes and things to do )

Took a 2-day trip to Aomori.
Took a 2-day trip to Aomori. On the first day, took the JR Gono line on the prefecture's west coast and enjoyed the beautiful rugged shores' landscape in winter. For the night, stayed at the unique Aomori city, which is famous for the snow-soaked streets. The next day, took a bullet train to Hachinohe, where I rented a car for the Towada lake via the Oirase gorge. The gorge is beautiful in winter, when you can see the frozen waterfalls. And the lake is especially a good place to visit in winter, due to the reduced number of tourists who venture to reach there.
The location is juz opposite side of the JR bus stop to Oirase it was fantasic,
also price is unbeatable with hot bath inside the Building,
What u paid is included Japanese style breakfast, rice, ecutted egg roll, assorted pickles, free coffee etc.,
Room size is bigger than I thought, can see part of the bridge
I was really impressed by the front desk who can speaks fluent English, she introduced the hotel nicely, so I do enjoy the facility on that day
The best of the APA hotels that I stayed at during my 2 week visit to Japan. While compact, it provided all the necessary amenities. The bed was notably larger than the others I had encountered at APA hotels, (though this did leave slightly less floor space). My request for a room with a specific view was honored by the staff. While not terribly fancy, the breakfast was a lovely mix of options, all of which tasted great.
the price is super cheap. the amenities is quite complete. it has pajamas, hair dryer, the bed is comfortable, 2 slippers, etc. i also got free bread as a complimentary. the staff were responsive and having great hospitality. i like the view as well, particularly in winter. it's city view covered with snow. but please be careful due to huge amount of snow in Aomori, when you drag your luggage it may stuck
Close to Shin-Aomori station so it’s a good choice if you’re taking the shinkansen often. However, besides the restaurants in the train station, they are almost nothing else nearby. Restaurants close early too so plan ahead. However, the hotel is just 2 mins walk from the station. Breakfast is great and spacious. Room is clean, although bed is a bit hard. Staff are friendly.
The breakfast included a large variety of delicious traditional Japanese dishes, all served buffet style and beautifully presented. Excellent coffee! The room is new, spotless and has a terrific view out to the surrounding mountains and Hokkaido in the distance. It is nice to sit in the massage chair and watch the ferries come and go. Service is outstanding!
The location and price of the hotel was great. I was returning from a trip to Hokkaido by ferry and the hotel was just a few minutes from the ferry terminal. The staff was very accommodating, suggesting several pay parking locations in the area and pointing out which was the cheapest/most convenient.
Great place, basically brand new. Good sized room for Japan, staff were lovely. Breakfast was good, there is an indoor and an outdoor onsen, free ice cream and Ramen in the evening, as well as free massage chairs and a manga library (Japanese books). Can also borrow umbrellas from the front.
There was an onsen right next to the hotel, which was amazing to come in and relax after a long day of travelling. We had breakfast at the hotel too and it was also very good. There was a large selection of local food, which means that we got to sample all of Aomori's cuisine too.
Clean rooms with linens refreshed daily, great location 4' from train station and attractions (A-Factory, harbor front, Nebuta Museum). Buffet breakfasts were excellent, with many options both Japanese and western-style. a/c worked great, nice tub/shower.
Hotel may not look impressive from the outside but the room is huge by Japanese standards. It's clean and comfortable. The reception staff were most helpful. And most of all, it's chef Nobu-san from Shin Creative Dining served the most delicious breakfast.
This hotel was great, very comfy bed, in a good location and the best breakfast by far on our trip. We are cycling in Japan and have been here since 12 May and the JAL breakfast was exceptional. Really good value for money for us.
The location is excellent in mountainous countryside. Close to Hakodate ropeway. The onsen is excellent with a small gym and free use of massage chairs. The highlight was the dinner. Many courses of excellent Japanese cuisine.
Very nice onsen! Highly recommended
Sample lotions etc. free to take, very nice after bathing in onsen
Room is spacious (for Japanese standard)
Facilities in the room is new, large TV, powerful shower, comfy bed
